READ – Rights Education and Development Centre implements a holistic tribal development program in the Hasanur and Kadambur regions of the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve. Tribal communities in these remote forest areas face major challenges in accessing education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, and government welfare services. To address educational barriers, READ operates 8 Education Centres with its own learning modules, supports scholarships, constructs community libraries, and facilitates transportation for children through collaboration with the Forest Department. In the health sector, READ conducts regular medical camps, provides health awareness sessions, and supports need-based referrals to hospitals. To strengthen livelihoods, READ has supported bore wells for tribal farmers, solar facilities, sprinkler irrigation for crops such as beans and peas, grocery shops in 6 villages, oil engines, and vocational skill training for youth. READ also promoted the Sathyamangalam Natural Producer Company and supported millet value addition through Ragi processing machines. Additionally, READ facilitates access to government entitlements, including RD accounts and PMJJBY insurance schemes, helping tribal families improve their social and economic security.
