READ – Rights Education and Development Centre is a registered non-governmental organization under the Societies Act with 12A, 80G, NGO Darpan, and CSR registrations. READ works with vulnerable and marginalized communities across Tamil Nadu. The organization focuses on tribal community holistic development, safe migration, strengthening the POSH Act, entrepreneurship support, and the welfare of sanitary workers. READ works to improve health, education, livelihoods, protection, and access to rights for children, women, adolescents, and economically vulnerable families.

To address socio-economic and cultural challenges faced by children, youth, and women from the most marginalized communities to lead a good standard of life by improving their education, health, livelihood opportunities, access to government entitlements and safe migration.

Celebrating 25 Years of Impact

2001

The Beginning of READ

READ was founded by Mr. Karuppusamy Raman to empower marginalized communities through education.
The organization started its journey in Erode District with a vision of equality and dignity for all.

2005

Expanding Educational Support

READ established education centres and learning support programs for vulnerable children.
The focus expanded from schooling to social awareness and community development.

2010

Reaching Tribal Communities

READ began working with tribal communities in the Sathyamangalam region.
Education, healthcare, and livelihood initiatives were introduced to improve quality of life.

2014

Health & Livelihood Development

The organization expanded into health awareness, medical camps, and livelihood support programs.
These efforts helped families improve their well-being and economic stability.

2017

Supporting Migrant Workers

READ launched programs for migrant workers and their children across Tamil Nadu.
Education, healthcare, and access to social protection became key focus areas.

2020

Women & Worker Empowerment

Special initiatives were introduced for women workers and sanitary worker communities.
READ promoted health, legal awareness, entrepreneurship, and social security.

2023

Strengthening Safe Workplaces

READ strengthened POSH Act implementation through industry partnerships.
Awareness programs and Internal Committees helped create safer workplaces for women.

2025

Building Sustainable Communities

Today, READ works across education, health, livelihoods, migration, and tribal development.
The organization continues to build empowered, inclusive, and self-reliant communities.
