Soon, six farmers in Kalithimbam tribal hamlet, located within the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR), whose lands have so far relied solely on rainwater, will be able to cultivate crops of their choice year-round. This transformation comes after the drilling of a borewell and ongoing efforts to install a solar-power motor that encourages community farming.

Situated two km off Dhimbam – Talamalai – Talavadi forest road in Talamalai panchayat, the hamlet comprises 75 families. These families typically grow ragi, maize and small millets on their small land for three to four months each year to meet their needs. However, due to lack of consistent water supply for irrigation, their lands remain idle for the rest of the year.
